Wendy Williamson
Wendy Williamson is the Director of Study Abroad at the Eastern Illinois University and has helped thousands of students travel overseas. She holds a M.A. in Counselor Education: Administration of College Student Affairs and a B.A. in Communication and Culture. Wendy completed two assignments (four years) with the US Peace Corps in West Africa and South America. In her free time, Wendy loves to write and travel.
In this interview lounge, she tells us her experience with Spain and Spanish programs:
When was the last time you have been to Spain?
Summer of 2010.
What do you enjoy most about Spain?
Spain has a rich and vibrant culture which I enjoy very much. I particularly like the warmth of people and the value placed on family and friends. I was there when Spain won the world cup and it was fantastic to see the celebration in the streets.
What do you think are the advantages of Spain as a destination for American students?
A rich cultural experience, the opportunity to learn Spanish, the lower cost compared to other European destinations, the diversity across regions, the opportunity to see the history of Jews, Muslims and Christians coexisting peacefully.
Could you describe the Study Abroad programs your university has with Spain?
We offer a program in Salamanca as well as Malaca.
How satisfied are, in general, American students going to Spain?
Students love Spain!
