Right off the tail of one of the few Hispanic holidays which most people can name – Cinco De Mayo – the Duncan Public Library hopes to show case many Spanish speaking countries heritage during the fourth annual Dia de la Hispanidad.

The Friends of the Library will sponsor the celebration, which is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 on the library front lawn, weather permitting.Amy Ryker, librarian, said this festival is one that was very popular.“We originally wanted to do a variety of festivals to attract people to the library, but this festival sort of stuck,” she said. “It was so popular that we felt it would make a really fun yearly event for the whole community.”

The party will have live music by Tamborazo Cinco Ochenta and trick ropers for entertainment, along with crafts and face painting and of course food  and drinks like horchata, jamaica and street tacos.Ryker said a besides a great time, the day is a great way to show off resources the library has for Spanish speakers.“The Duncan Library has lots of resources for Spanish speakers, but not necessarily a lot of ways to connect to that community,” she said. “We love having this festival because it is a really fun way to draw in a slice of Duncan that we don’t always see coming through our doors. It gives us an opportunity to tell people about our resources and show them we are welcoming of all ethnic communities.”
