Paz Vega

For Paz Vega a literary work that changed her life was “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” (The House of   Bernarda Alba), a play by Federico Garcia Lorca. Until then the 30-year-old girl from Seville wanted to be a sports star, go into politics or be a journalist. But after seeing the Andalusian author’s play she knew that she could only be an actress. Settled in Los Angeles waiting for her first baby to be born, Vega has fulfilled her dream both in Spain with movies like “Lucia y el Sexo” (Lucia and Sex) and “Teresa, Muerte y Vida” (Teresa, Death and Life), while in the United States she did “Spanglish” and   now “Ten Items or Less.”

Q. What are you reading?

A. “Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking Company” by the Mexican Maria Amparo Escandon. An exquisite book that really moves, perfect for reading while they’re taking me to a filming.

Q. What book has influenced you?

A. There are so many. “The Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett or “Perfume” by Patrick Suskind. I like romantic novels or great stories.

Q. An author?

A. I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez. You have to read him, any of his books. An author that grips you when you’re young but above all his work is very beautiful and poetic.

Q. How would you encourage people to read?

A. By encouraging them to read above all books that are known in the street, the ones that are popular, and not try anything odd because that will come in due course.
